I have practiced gastroenterology for over 25 years. My interest in gastrointestinal (GI) medicine started while completing an internal medicine residency at Washington University School of Medicine. I was exposed and fascinated by endoscopy which uses fiberoptics to visilualize hollow organs such as the stomach, small bowel and colon. This powerful tool allows physicians to precisely diagnose and treat the many facets of gastroenterology such as peptic ulcer disease, acid reflux disease, colon polyps and colon cancer, GI bleeding disorders, inflammatory bowel disease and infectious disorders of the colon and small bowel bowel. I eventually finished a gastrointestinal fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, affiliated with the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. I find that the best clinical outcome is when I involve the patient in decision making in regards to a specific treatment plan. My fields of expertise in GI medicine are acid reflux disease (GERD), dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease (PUD), gastric motility disorders, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth syndrome (SIBO), IBS, capsule endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease (mostly Crohn’s disease), colon cancer screening, chronic idiopathic constipation, chronic diarrhea, abnormal weight loss, weight loss medicine and counseling, fatty liver disease, chronic hepatitis B and chronic hepatitis C. My interests outside of GI include western art music (especially Bach), meditation, mental
health in the work force, traveling and my Wheaten terrier GoGo (he is six years old now). I am fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and proficient in Mandarin Chinese. Thank you visiting my bio page, and I look forward to taking care of your GI health and needs.
